Amoldipine Monotherapy in Patients with Essential Hypertension

Abstract
We evaluated the antihypertensive efficacy and side effects of amolodipine, a new calcium antagonist, in patients with essential hypertension. After the 12 weeks of clinical trial, the following results were obtained:
1) The clinical trial patients consisted of 11 men & 9 women and the mean age was 52.8 years.
2) Amlodipine 5~10 mg daily was administered for 12 weeks.
3) The systolic and diastolic blood pressure was decreased significanly.
4) The heart rate did not change with amlodipine monotherapy.
5) The systolic bllod pressure was lowered by 20 mmHg or more in 70% of 20 patients and diastolic pressure was lowered by 10 mmHg or more in 75% of 20 patients at 12 wks after clinical trial.
6) The adverse effects of amlodipine were headade, indigestion, pelpitation, dizziness in one patient respectively.
7) Amlodipine monotherapy with 5~10 mg once day regimen was effective in the patients with mild to moderate hypertension.
